What a chaotic night of heaviness and hard-to-follow musical insanity. Fuck yeah.

The night started out in the newer Foundry on Pearl with Warmbody from Canton, OH. This independent band is a mathcore/chaotic hardcore metal group with similar weird song structures and chaotic riffs similar to SYNT. Good and heavy and will be on the lookout for more.

Next up was Mutilatred from Toledo. This was more in the direction of slam or old-school death metal. There was hardcore-adjacent aggression and had some caveman vibes at times. Determined to Rot is their album that I’d start with if you check them out! I understand why they’re on the same lineup as SYNT.

Underneath was next, coming from Pittsburgh. They’re in the vein of Deathcore and Chaotic Hardcore with some Death Metal riffs and fun unpredictability. Their vibe was a little more messy, but intentionally messy for the sake of aggression and not sounding too polished. I’ll be looking for the next time they come around and I’m down to drive out to Pittsburgh to see them as well. I love Pittsburgh and I’m glad I have another reason to go.

See You Next Tuesday fleshed out the night and the crowd was stoked. The last time I saw them was in 2007 at Peabody’s Downunder, which is a classic Cleveland metal venue that has been shut down since 2013. They played with Despised Icon, All Shall Perish, The Red Chord and Through the Eyes of the Dead, which is SUCH a stacked lineup and I would kill to see that show again at the ripe old age of 34. At the time of 2007 I was running the Winds of Plague Street Team page on Myspace and was at every show I could afford to go to (which was most of them since doors was always $13 max). See You Next Tuesday was a band that I didn’t look too deeply into before that show, even though I was a huge fan of The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Heavy Heavy Low Low, AGATG and anything in the same crazy grind core genre at the time. That show changed my outlook on them. Their explosively short songs with unique samples and high energy made me a fan for life.

When I got to the Foundry, I approached the merch table and saw a few of the members. Drew (guitar) and his girlfriend initially talked to me about the cameras that I brought since she’s a photographer herself (she took the image for the album cover Distractions). We nerded out on that for a bit before I explained to Drew that I’ve been wanting to see them since that Peabody’s show back in the day. He remembered that set and we talked about how we miss Peabody’s for a second. What a nice dude, I was so happy to chat with him. Chris (vocals) came over and we chatted for a bit as well. I can’t say enough good things about these dudes, they were so kind, which is always the case when the music is insane, heavy, and makes no sense to most listeners. They just “don’t get it.” Their drummer, James (on a double bass kit) and (headless Flying V) bassist, Rick, kept the rhythm section in check and were surprisingly tight. Drew’s guitar (Gold ESP LTD) has the words “THIS GUITAR KILLS FASCISTS” painted on the grontAs a chaser of grind core, chaos, impressive instrumentation and overstimulation, See You Next Tuesday is the best. With song names like “8 Dead, 9 if you Count the Fetus,” “Honey, I’ve Never Had Sex that Wasn’t Awkward,” and “Before I Die, I’m Gonna F’ck Me a Fish,” you can tell they love to just be weird, have fun and satiristically be brutal as possible. Check them out if you love chaos and don’t take life too seriously. And GO SEE THEM ASAP!
